When There’s Unity in The Community… Anything Is Possible

On Saturday, July 22 the community came under one roof, for one sole purpose… to UNITE TOGETHER. POWERHANDZ, The Power To Give Foundation, Dallas Park & Rec and the Dallas Police Department joined together to put on the first ever Unity In The Community Celebrity Basketball Tournament. Hundreds of people from around the city came to see local celebs play. This list included individuals such as Lady Jade, Henry Melton, Adam Medrano, BDOT, Ro Parrish, Perrish Cox, Laila Muhammad, Doc Patton, Tiffany Bias, Yolanda Williams, Damian Williams, Devin Smith, Mark Clayton, Donald Sloan, Terrel Harris and more.

After the first set of games, everyone took a moment to recognize the 5 fallen officers from the shootings that occurred on July 7, 2016. In honor of each officer, the first ever Unity In The Community Awards were given out to five individuals that are making a difference in the City of Dallas on a daily basis.

Unity In the Community Award Recipients:

Pastor Bryan Carter – Senior Pastor of Concord Church
Lady Jade – Morning Show Co-Host of K104’s “DEDE IN THE MORNING”
Nick Marino Jr – Director of Social Change for TangoTab
Honorable Judge Amber Givens-Davis – Presiding Judge of the 282nd Judicial Court
Juan Carlos “JC” Gonzalez – Vice President of Wells Fargo

Thanks to the community and sponsors, the turnout was great and the youth dance teams entertained the crowd with full enthusiasm. This will be the first of many Unity In The Community events.
